Suzie P asked:

The receiver is already in the rv, so I called direct tv to activate it but they said I could ony set up an account for my house. We use cable at the house and I only want direct tv for the rv. Can’t be that unusual is it?

Can you still enjoy camping if you have a fear of bugs and snakes?

March 08, 2008 By: admin Category: Camping 7 Comments →

suzy home maker asked:

How safe is camping really? I have always wanted to try it. Is it realistic with children?

We have a big van, can you sleep in it if you dont want to sleep in the tent? Is this allowed on campsites? Can you bring your dog along? Are there flushing toilets around?

I know nothing about camping, can anyone please give me some answers.

Can my friend go camping even though her and her friends are below 18?

March 08, 2008 By: admin Category: Camping 6 Comments →

Phillip S asked:

Ok my friend wants to go camping tonight, really bad apparently.
So does she -have- to have someone who’s 18 with her to go camping? It’s a camping site thing.

Are there good tent sites for camping along the Appalachian Trail in the Shenandoah National Park?

March 07, 2008 By: admin Category: Other - Outdoor Recreation 3 Comments →

LeRoy asked:

I am planning a section hike in the Shenandoah National Park in September/October. I’ve studied the maps and SNP guide book. Any information or suggestions that can be offered concerning camping sites near the trail — especially in the Southern and Central Districts — would be appreciated. Since the park can be crowded in the fall I would like to avoid the shelters/huts, especially on the weekends.

In AT guide books, the trail log will mention camping/tenting sites, but the gide book on the SNP rarely mentions any. I am familiar with the backcountry camping requirements and restrictions (the Park has a really great brochure), but I figure those who have actually hiked the trail would have the best suggestions to where to find quite, uncrowded camp sites along the AT.

Thanks for the info.

How common is it to live year-round in a permanently parked RV-type thing? How’s it work out?

March 04, 2008 By: admin Category: RV's 1 Comment →

Do your own thinking! asked:

There’s a spot in rural Ontario we drive by sometimes that has a decent-sized grouping of trailers. Not ‘trailer park’-type trailers, but what’re often referred to as Winnebagos. Some are rather wee.

Given that it’s by the water, we figured it was a seasonal thing.

Nope. Still there in the snow, with signs of current occupation.

Is that even particularly economical? It seems to me there’d be a lot of unique costs to living like that. The need, for one, to shop frequently while living in the sticks. (Nearest grocery store is +/- 1/2hr away.)

I assume there’re hook-ups for things there given the density in just the one area — what sort of services would there be?

It doesn’t have the expected “Such-n-Such RV Park” sign or any details out front.

Really odd to see a crammed-in mini-community like that. Given how easy it is to see from a not unused highway, I don’t think they’re there illegally.

Any insights on how living there works out?

What is the longest time one can stay at an RV campground?

March 03, 2008 By: admin Category: Other - United States 4 Comments →

newmommie asked:

My husband and I are going to have to stay at an RV campground this summer while renovations are being done at our house. Does anyone know how long one is permitted to stay? I’m talking about the RV parks that one pays nightly or weekly for staying there, not any free ones.
Hi Arthur - thanks for your reply - we live in Texas

What would be a really weird thing to have for dinner on a camping trip?

March 02, 2008 By: admin Category: Camping 16 Comments →

Rick asked:

We’re going on a camping trip and we need to think of something really weird to have for dinner. We’ll have access to a camp stove and we won’t have to carry food far so weight doesn’t matter.

We just want something really weird or a weird combo to have. Any suggestions?
