I am trying to find a short in a 1990 National RV Dolphin and I am looking for tips/products that can help?

June 29th, 2010
Jeff asked:

I have an electrical problem which I believe to be a short in a National RV 1990 Dolphin. I have replaced all 3 batteries (housing x2, starter x1) and have seen the batteries all die after minimal use. The fridge, microwave, air conditioner and some of the lights are also not working at all even when the batteries were brand new.

RV Today Archive- Amador County

June 28th, 2010
RecreationInMotion asked:

Amador County California has had the luxury of not being discovered by the big interstate system with I-80 a good hour north allowing nothing but two lane roads to and from. The charming town of Sutter Creek California still holds on to its mid 1800’s gold rush roots. An activity involving the gold mines includes an underground tour of the Sutter Creek mine where gold rusher mined over 100 years ago. Many visit Amador County to visit the various wineries across the area. A great place to park your RV in Amador County is the Far Horizons 49er RV Resort. The resort has 329 lots on 23 acres with swimming pool and deli espresso cafe.

Where can I find an inexpensive, used RV or camper in Georgia or South Carolina?

June 27th, 2010
Lucibelle asked:

Would like it to have a/c, sleeping room for at least 6, and a bathroom. All else would be optional, or extra. We love to camp, are getting too old to sleep in a tent, but don’t have lot of money to spend on an RV right now.

10 Tips for Buying Your First Motorhome

June 26th, 2010
Ross Hinton asked:

But for many first-timers, the prospect of buying a new Motorhome or RV can be an overwhelming process. What do you look for? What are the best models? How do you know you’re getting the best deal?

These are just some of the questions that pop up every time. So Sureterm Direct, the UK’s largest specialist Motorhome and RV insurers, have come up with this simple 10-point plan to help you through the Motorhome buying maze.

1. Before you set out to see some Motorhomes or RV’s on a dealer forecourt, make a comprehensive wishlist of the things that you want.  In the excitement of buying your first Motorhome, it’s easy to forget exactly what you want – and having a checklist to hand will keep you focused.

2. Be flexible. Unless you’re on a substantial budget, it’s unlikely that you’ll find everything on your wishlist in one Motorhome or RV. So be clear about what are ‘essentials’ and what are ‘desirables’.

3. See if your local dealers offer a ‘try before you buy’ service. Hiring a Motorhome, even for a weekend, will help you decide if you’re really into the Motorhome lifestyle. It’s also an opportunity to try out various layouts. And this will help shape your wishlist. At the very least, take some test drives in various models and make sure you get the feel of the vehicle on country roads, A roads and motorways.

4. When you do decide to take the plunge, always buy locally if possible. Buying from a dealer on the other side of the country is great if you get the deal of a lifetime – but no so great if you have to drive over there every time something goes wrong with your Motorhome or RV.

5. If you’re buying a second-hand Motorhome, make sure you give every vehicle you look at a thorough inspection. Definitely check for signs of accident repair, leaks and signs of mould or damp. And if you’re very inexperienced, take along a qualified mechanic or vehicle inspector (the AA and RAC sometimes offer this service to members) just to make 100% certain the vehicle is clean and roadworthy.

6. Motorhome and RV shows are an excellent way to help you identify models you like. And taking along a digital camera, or camera phone, allows you to take pictures of the motorhomes you like, or features that impress. You can then use these pictures when you start looking at models to buy.

7. There are thousands of experienced motorcaravanners out there who are happy to help people who are new to Motorhome ownership. So ask them for their opinions. Visit your nearest caravan sites and talk to owners, visit local shows and events, and use the internet as a valuable resource. www.sureterm.com is building up a community of Motorhome and RV owners and others sites like www.motorcaravanmagazine.co.uk and www.motorcaravanners.org.uk will help.

8. Once you’ve found your perfect Motorhome, you need to be 100% certain it’s exactly what you want. Spend a few hours trying it out – making the beds, setting up the tables, moving chairs around. Setting up the Motorhome will let you decide if there’s really enough space, and whether you can live with any minor niggles.

9. Always ask the dealer, or seller, to demonstrate everything for you. If there are extras, make sure all of the accessories like awning poles, hook-up leads, filling hoses and water bottles are present and in good working order.

10. And finally, don’t forget to get adequate insurance. Driving a Motorhome or RV on a standard car insurance policy is unlikely to give you the best cover. Companies like Sureterm Direct have been providing specialist Motorhome and RV insurance for 10 years, and have policies to cover every Motorhome situation you’re ever likely to encounter.

The Rules and Regulations of Motorhome Hire

June 25th, 2010
Allan asked:

Travelling is fun and travelling in motorhome is unlimited fun. It is as if you get your home with you, and by staying in your own home you take a trip to many of your favourite spots. There are a number of agencies that offer motorhome hire service. Terms and conditions of hiring the campervan vary from agency to agency. A few of them are mentioned here.

The rules and regulations mentioned may be followed by majority of the agencies. The first thing one should know is about collecting and returning the motorhome. In this connection, it is advisable not to start the journey on the same day you collect the motorhome. You may be informed about the way the motorhome works best. So, in order to make the best of motorhome hire, it is better to get a thorough introduction.

The next thing you should be careful about is the time of returning the motorhomes. You should make certain that the motorhome is returned on time. Most of the agencies charge fines for every extra hour you use the motorhome. This is because the motorhome hire agencies maintain a carefully planned schedule. They charge extra from you for late return of the motorhomes.

You may come across flashy advertisements claiming that motorhomes include everything in them. You just need to hire one and start using it. However, this may not be the case always. In some cases, after motorhome hire, you will only get the crockery and other kitchen equipment. The rest of the things like bed-linen, blankets, pillows, towels, camping table and chairs etc. will have to be taken by you.

After motorhome hire, you should also be ready to face some not-so-happy surprises. For example, you may not get the exact motorhome that you have hired. In such circumstances, you will be offered similar or better motorhomes and you will need to pay extra for this.
